- Postnatal Doula | B.J. Woodstein
Postnatal Doula As a postnatal doula, I provide emotional and practical support to help you transition to life with a new baby. What each individual or family needs is different, but examples of things that we might do include debriefing your birth, discussing feeding, recovery, parenting, emotions, baby care, the transformation that occurs at the arrival of a child, and anything else that is relevant. I provide information and signposting as needed, and can support breastfeeding, babywearing, sleep and other things. I can carry out baby care, and can help with light practical tasks, such as preparing a meal, pet care (if relevant) or shopping. I can also take care of your baby while work, shower, exercise, sleep or otherwise get a break. Postnatal doula sessions cost £35 per hour, with a three-hour minimum (travel expenses can also apply if you are outside Norwich). Please contact me for a no-obligation discussion of what I might be able to do for you.
- Birth Work HOME | B.J. Woodstein
Pregnancy, Birth Work and Lactation Support After the birth of my first child, I quickly grew to understand how vital knowledgeable, caring support can be. My own experiences during pregnancy, birth and lactation – and my gratitude to my wife and to the midwives and lactation consultant who helped me – led me to train to become first a breastfeeding peer supporter and then a breastfeeding counsellor. I became an advocate for the rather obvious idea that you should provide people with research-based evidence and then support them to make the decisions that work best for them and their circumstances. I started by supporting people postnatally, and then I added in antenatal support and birth work once I trained as a doula and also as a peer supporter and mentor for pregnant people suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum. It should go without saying that it is your body, your baby and your choice, and I love working with people so they can feel supported and empowered to make the choices that suit them. - Lactation Support | B.J. Woodstein
Lactation Support I am a qualified International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and I also volunteer on the National Breastfeeding Helpline. I provide in-person or Zoom consultations for support with breastfeeding/chestfeeding. An initial in-person consultation costs £90 and takes approximately 60-90 minutes. You will receive written recommendations after the consultation and a follow-up telephone or video call of up to 30 minutes within a week. If you live outside Norwich, mileage is charged from my house at £0.15 per mile. Additional in-person consultations are £60. An online-only consultation costs £60 and takes approximately 30-60 minutes. You will receive written recommendations after the video call and a follow-up telephone call of up to 30 minutes within a week. The National Breastfeeding Helpline is free to call and is open 9.30 am to 9.30 pm every day of the year. The telephone number is 0300 100 0212.
- Birth Doula | B.J. Woodstein
Birth Doula I trained to be a doula because I had a doula myself for my second birth, and that made all the difference between me feeling impotent and done-to, as I had the first time around, and empowered and strong the second time. I want to help you find the strength and power within you and I want to support you so you can meet your pregnancy, birth, feeding, and parenting goals. I believe that loving, encouraging, and informed support really matters, so I will offer you evidence-based information, a warm and friendly listening ear, and an attention to detail that means that I will focus on your needs and desires. I have extensive experience with both antenatal and postnatal support because I am a trained peer supporter through Pregnancy Sickness Support and also a trained breastfeeding counsellor on the National Breastfeeding Helpline. I have a particular passion for breastfeeding and have myself been a breastfeeding mother for six years and counting now. I also have experience of fertility treatment and would be happy to support individuals/families on their fertility journey. Some of the relevant training I have taken includes: a doula course; a breastfeeding peer support module; a breastfeeding counsellor course; negotiation skills; assertiveness training; counselling skills; stress management skills; courses in anatomy, physiology, genetics, and other science subjects. Feel free to ask for my CV if you would like to know more. Beside my volunteer roles, I work as an academic in literature and translation at the University of East Anglia. Outside of work, I love spending time with my family, reading, walking, and swimming. I am originally from Chicago, in the US, and now I live in Norwich with my wife and our two children and two cats. I am a mentored doula, which means I am supported by a more experienced doula, and this in turn is beneficial to you since you in a sense get two doulas for the price of one.
- Three-Step Rewind | B.J. Woodstein
Three-Step Rewind Practitioner Three-step rewind is a relaxation and learning strategy that helps you process, reframe, and better cope with a difficult event in your past. This can be about a traumatic event, the ending of a relationship, or grief regarding pregnancy, birth or breastfeeding, or anything challenging. Over the course of two sessions, you go into a relaxed state, review the event, and then change how you view it, distancing yourself from it so it does not have the same hold over you. It is not therapy as such, but rather a way of helping yourself move on from an upsetting/traumatising situation. It is thought that this technique can help release some negative feelings about yourself and your situation and give you a way of reframing it more positively. The first session takes around an hour. The second session is usually shorter, around 30-45 minutes. There will usually be 7 or so days in between the sessions. At the moment, all sessions take place over video call, and you would need to be somewhere you could sit comfortably, undisturbed. It costs £175 total. Trained and accredited by
- Sida på svenska | B.J. Woodstein
Hej!

- Translator | B.J. Woodstein | Swedish
Swedish to English Translator På svenska I have worked as a translator since 2002. I have translated many different texts from Swedish, Danish, and Norwegian to English, and occasionally also from English or Danish to Swedish. Over the years, I’ve gained experience in translating a range of texts, including menus and cookbooks, user’s manuals, annual reports, financial documents, scientific articles, poems, songs, short stories, novels, books on gardening and art, literary analyses, and much more. I’ve worked for individual customers, translation agencies, organisations, universities, and publishing companies. In recent years, I have mostly focused on literary fiction and non-fiction. For example, in 2022, my translation of The Summer of Diving by Sara Stridsberg with illustrations by Sara Lundberg, was published, and in 2021, my translation of David Sundin's The Book That Did Not Want to Be Read came out. In 2020, my translation of Sara Lundberg’s illustrated novel was published in North America as The Bird in Me Flies and in the rest of the world as The Bird Within Me, and my translation of Ylva Hillström and Karin Eklund’s Mapping the Invisible was published in Sweden. Other literary authors whose short stories or poems or novel excerpts I have translated include Mats Kempe, Kristina Sandberg, Edith Södergran, Moa Backe Åstot, Kerstin Norborg, Johan Jönson, Gunnar Ardelius and Johannes Anyuru. I have also written many articles about translation and given dozens of academic and popular talks on the subject. I am a full member of the Swedish-English Literary Translators’ Association, Sveriges Facköversättarförening (Swedish Association of Professional Translators), and Översättarcentrum (Translators’ Centre). Also translated by B.J. Woodstein...
